A brain injury can affect who we are, the way we think, act and feel. It can change everything about ourselves in a matter of seconds. When a person sustains a brain injury, the need for support is an important tool, not only for recovery but for rebuilding one’s confidence.
While other injuries such as strokes and spinal cord injuries cause visible deficits, brain injuries often do not present visible, physical limitations. The brain injury support group organized through Rio Vista Physical Rehabilitation Hospital realizes this need and has been recognized with the outstanding brain injury support group award by the Brain Injury Association of Texas.
The Brain Injury Support Group of El Paso helps members deal with these challenges and the public’s perception of their disability. The primary goals of the group are to provide a place where survivors and caregivers can receive support, and education.
The group meets the second Tuesday of every month at Rio Vista located at 1740 Curie from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The members can talk to one another about their experiences and share their successes. Members come from all walks of life. Some were schoolteachers, some business owners, some still in school.
