A view from Mars, a trip around the moon or a look across the galaxy, these are just some of the sights to help ease the stress of an emergency room visit for child at Providence Memorial Hospital. With the latest addition to the Providence Children’s Pavilion, the pediatric emergency room is designed just for kids with a soothing out of this world atmosphere that will house:
- 11 treatment beds
- 3 triage areas
- 2 dedicated critical care rooms
- well child waiting room
- sick child waiting room
The pediatric emergency room will be staff by two physicians who are board certified in pediatrics and emergency medicine and certified under the Advanced Pediatric Life System that offers a comprehensive review of pediatric medicine. Emergency room nurses will also be certified in the emergency nurse pediatric course. With this education, emergency room staff is able to evaluate and offer the proper course of treatment for children of all ages.
Providence Children's Pavilion
Since 1952, Providence Memorial Hospital has been investing in El Paso's future by placing a special emphasis on pediatric care. Every department involved in the specialized medical treatment of children - from our pediatric nursing staff to our respiratory therapists and nutritionists - are trained to be sensitive to every child's and parent's concerns. Our colorfully decorated inpatient units provide kids with healthy distractions during their hospital stay, including play rooms, supervised activity sessions and computer rooms.
Oceanville-A 34-bed unit designed to care for children between the ages of 3 and 18 years. The aquatic theme department is also home to the pediatric outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory and speech therapy.
Kidsville-A 50-bed unit designed for newborns to 3 year-olds. With its imaginative décor, playroom and classroom, which is staffed by a EPISD teacher, children and their families can concentrate on recovery.
Jungeville-A 14-bed unit designed to care for children with cancer. With its animal graphics, area is kid-friendly and encourages family participation in the medical process.

- Child Life Therapy
Our trained specialist works with patients and their families to help kids feel better through therapeutic play, individual and family counseling sessions, hospital tours and more.
- Pediatric and Neonatal Transport Teams
Efforts are coordinated among medical specialists to stabilize and transport pediatric patients to Providence from El Paso area hospitals who may not be equipped to serve critically-ill children and newborns.
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
With eight beds, including three isolation rooms, this unit is equipped to treat critically-ill children. Parents are provided sleep rooms and showers to keep them near their children during hospitalization.
- Pediatric Oncology Services
Comprehensive oncology services for our pediatric patients including chemotherapy, transfusions, hydration therapy, bone marrow aspiration and lumbar puncture. Support groups for children and family members are also available.
- Pediatric Pulmonary Clinic
The program uses advanced technology with personalized pediatric care to assist physicians in diagnosing respiratory illnesses such as asthma, cystic fibrosis and other lung diseases.
- Specialized Pediatric Services
Other areas that specialize in pediatric care include anesthesiology, gastroenterology, neurology, pathology and surgery.
- Support Services
Diagnosis and treatment for children may sometimes invol ve non-pediatric areas. At Providence, our Emergency, Radiology, Lab and Admitting employees are trained to understand a child's special health care.
Border Children's Health Center
When it comes to health care, children with chronic illnesses need special attention. Border Children's Health Center provides these children and their families with access to specialized pediatric treatment clinics at one convenient location. And, to help accommodate each family's work and school schedules, treatment programs are provided on an outpatient basis. The center offers 18 different treatment clinics, ranging from pediatric cardiology and physical rehabilitation to craniofacial anomalies and spina bifida.
