More than 500 student’s from El Paso County elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools submitted essays on topics such as “What Ethics Mean to Me,” “Why Ethics Matter at School,” and “How Ethical Practices Shape Our World.” Nurses from The Children’s Hospital at Providence and staff from the Sierra Providence Marketing department selected one winner in each of these categories. The Children’s Hospital at Providence will be hosting a cake and ice-cream reception celebrating the winners at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2007, in the Discharge area of the Oceanville Unit, third floor, at the Children’s Hospital, located at 2001 N. Oregon St. The media is invited to attend. Winners will also be given a tour of The Children’s Hospital at Providence.
“Ethics are the foundation of Sierra Providence Health Network,” said Irene Chavez. “They determine not only how we treat each other but also the quality of care and respect we provide our patients. All of our employees participate in ethics training on a yearly basis. We are recognizing students who have best grasped the notion of ethics in our society and in a way we have also been recognized by the BBB for our high ethical standards and practices. We are pleased to be judging this contest.”
The BBB’s Ethics Essay Contest received entries in three grade categories including fourth to sixth, seventh to ninth, and tenth to twelfth. Students from fourth to sixth grades answered the question “What Ethics Mean to Me.” Students from seventh to ninth grade wrote on the topic “Why Ethics Matter at School.” And tenth to twelfth grade students wrote on “How Ethical Practices Shape Our World.” The BBB sent out a request for submissions to all area teachers in March.
Prior to visiting The Children’s Hospital at Providence winners will be having lunch at Ft. Bliss. The BBB will also present winners with a U.S. Savings bond to be used for continuing their education.
