A Special Kind of Care

Sierra Providence La Mariposa

La Mariposa Hospice provides advanced methods of managing pain and symptoms. Our goal is to help patients live their final days to the fullest.

The People Who Help
Our caring staff works to meet the needs of terminally ill patients and their family/caregivers by the following:

  • Doctors and nurses collaborate to treat symptoms associated with terminal illness by making patient comfort a priority. The goal is to help patients enjoy their families and surroundings as much as possible.
  • Home health aides have experience in providing care for critically and terminally ill patients and can assist with personal hygiene, basic nutrition and daily activities.
  • Social workers know that dealing with death takes time and understanding. La Mariposa Hospice social workers offer social interventions, pre-bereavement support and counseling to address the individual needs of the patient and family members.
  • Spiritual counseling is available through La Mariposa Hospice Chaplain Services. In addition, La Mariposa Hospice Chaplain can coordinate spiritual care with your priest, pastor or rabbi at your request.
  • Trained volunteers can provide companionship, emotional support and other special help like reading aloud, running errands, or giving the family a little time away.
  • Our staff is well trained and educated to care for pediatric patients and work in collaboration with the Child Life Specialists at The Children’s Hospital at Providence Memorial Hospital.

Bereavement Program
Sierra Providence La Mariposa Hospice Bereavement Program provides emotional, social and spiritual support to families after the death of their loved ones.

  • Bereavement and grief services are provided up to one year after the loss of a loved one.
  • The Bereavement Team helps grieving families adjust to life without their loved ones.
  • The Bereavement Coordinator will follow-up with family members through telephone, correspondence and/or personal visits. Home visits are conducted as needed or upon request.
  • The Bereavement Program Coordinator provides “Life after Loss,” an American Cancer Society sponsored bereavement program, several times a year. This program offers 6-8 consecutive weekly sessions, which allows loved ones to work through their grief.
