Giving of Your Time; Giving of Yourself
Volunteering...What better way to show compassion and interest in another's well-being. This is what the spirit of being a volunteer is all about at Sierra Providence Health Network. Volunteer opportunities abound for those generous individuals who wish to help our facilities provide important services and support to our patients, guests and the community.

Volunteers may donate 4 to 40 hours a week in many areas of hospital operations, including answering phones and directing visitors to patient rooms. Every day, their dedication and efforts touch the lives of many patients and their families.

To become a volunteer at Providence Memorial Hospital. Sierra Medical Center or Sierra Providence Physical Rehabilitation Hospital, please call (915)747-2710.  There are several volunteer opportunities currently available at the following SPHN facilities:

Providence Memorial Hospital:
Staff Assistants
From delivering flowers with a smile or helping a lost visitor find their way, volunteers play an important role at the hospital. But aside from those duties, volunteers also help staff members in the day to day responsibilities of running a hospital. These volunteer staff assistants provide light clerical support such as answering phones and running errands. They also help staff members with transporting patients and assisting with new and discharged patients. Volunteer staff assistants are under the supervision of the Volunteer Services Department and must complete orientation and training.

Staff Volunteers
Provide assistance escorting patients, running errands and other duties. Positions available Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Nursing Unit Volunteers
Provide general assistance, interact with patients and other duties. Positions available Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m - 5:00 p.m.

Candystriper/Teen Volunteers
Must be 14 years of age, have a C or better in every class, provide two letter of reference and be committed to volunteering 4 hours per week. Call (915) 747-2710 for more information on this program.


Sierra Medical Center:
Admitting Assistants
Assist with escorting patients to various departments throughout the hospital. Help deliver gifts and visit patients on a daily basis. Positions available weekend mornings.  Positions available Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Security Dispatch Assistants
Assist with answering phones, dispatching calls and escorting visitors and patients to various hospital departments. Positions available Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.


Sierra Providence Physical Rehabilitation Hospital:
Staff Assistants
Provide general assistance with patients, deliver ice water and perform other duties. Positions available Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Dietary Assistants
Assist with passing out dietary menus to patients and other duties. Positions available Mondays and Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m. - 12 noon.


Outpatient Facilities:
Border Children's Health Clinic
Staff Volunteers
Assist with escorting patients, interacting with children and other duties. Positions available Monday - Friday, mornings or afternoons.

Physical Therapy Volunteers
Provide physical therapists with general assistance, interact with children and other duties. Positions available Monday - Friday, mornings or afternoons.

Sierra Providence Eastside Center (Trawood)
Staff Volunteers
Assist in greeting patients and visitors, escorting patients throughout facility and other duties. Positions available Monday - Friday, mornings or afternoons.

Become An Auxilian
Another facet of volunteering includes the Providence Memorial Hospital and Sierra Medical Center Auxiliaries, non-profit organizations dedicated to providing financial support for educational programs, scholarships and promoting the welfare of hospital patients and guests. Auxilians may be active volunteers who donate their time or associate members who share their support through donations.
