Recent studies estimate that 16 percent of El Pasoans over age 18 have Diabetes and as many as 22 percent of children at the middle school level have indicators of pre-Diabetes or insulin resistance.
The Sierra Providence Health Network (SPHN) and the El Paso Diabetes Association (EPDA) are collaborating to improve the quality and frequency of diabetes services delivered to people in El Paso, while assisting physicians with case management, monitoring, and patient programs.
In December 2005, The American Diabetes Association (ADA) awarded the Providence Memorial Hospital Diabetes Program an Education Recognition Certificate indicating our program offers high-quality education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment.
The Association’s Education Recognition Certificate ensures that educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Sel-Management Education Programs. These Standards were developed and tested under the auspices of the National Diabetes Advisory Board in 1983 and were revised by the diabetes community in 1994 and 2000.
The Sierra Providence Diabetes Center offers programs following ADA-approved curriculum.
