A Savings Plan in Your Interest For many types of planned surgeries, patients generally lose little blood and may not need a transfusion. But for those who may need additional blood, Sierra Providence Health Network offers you an alternative type of blood transfusion: autologous blood donation. If you are scheduled to have surgery at Sierra Medical Center, Providence Memorial Hospital or Providence Eastside Center, you may donate blood to yourself. Having autologous blood units on hand not only may give you peace of mind, but it also helps to conserve the community blood supply. And whether you receive blood from the community supply or from your own donation, the blood is tested before being used. Autologous blood donation may not be an option for everyone so it's best to consult with your doctor when making arrangements for your procedure. If your doctor decides you are a candidate for autologous blood donation, both Sierra and Providence can store your blood for up to 35 days prior to your surgery.
