On 25 February, 2011 Sierra Providence East Medical Center (SPEMC) participated in a signing ceremony to reaffirm its commitment and partnership with the 2nd Brigade, 1st Amor Division, 4/27th Field Artillery Battalion. The community partner adoption program is an Association of the United States Army, Omar Bradley Chapter initiative to join the business community with Army units stationed at Fort Bliss.
SPEMC initially adopted the 5/1 Brigade Fires Battalion in May 2009 and fostered strong bonds between the Soldiers and Family members of the Fires Battalion and the staff at SPEMC. The Army decided in late 2010 that the 5/1 Brigade would case its colors and deactivate. SPEMC feared that they would be losing a beloved partner and friend.
Fate however smiled upon both organizations as those Soldiers reported under the new flag of the 4/27th Field Artillery Battalion with many of the same leaders, Soldiers and Family members that SPEMC had formed such a strong bond with over the past two years.
On hand for the event were Rick Glancey, President of the Omar Bradley Chapter of AUSA, LTC Moretti, commander of the 4/27th and Ms. Monica Vargas, COO of SPEMC. Soldiers, Family members of the 4/27th and SPEMC staff attended the ceremony. The event was held at East Fort Bliss, Texas at the 4/27th motor pool with “A triple 7 Howitzers”, the 4/27th colors and the US flag as the back drop for the event.
