The Respiratory Therapy Department, from the Children’s Hospital at Providence provided an awareness program for the Exceptional Family Members Program (EFMP) at Fort Bliss, Texas during the month of March. The Respiratory team offered an Asthma education class to several members of the EFMP.
As part of the Sierra Providence Health Network Military outreach program, the respiratory team was invited to Fort Bliss to present an hour long program. Topics covered included; asthma education on the prevention, management, and the handling of emergency situations. The respiratory team also provided free flow meters and spacers as well as demonstrations on proper use and care of medications. Many of the Military and their Family members in attendance are new to El Paso. The program included education on the desert environment of Fort Bliss and El Paso and some of the triggers and precautions that are unique to this region.
The respiratory therapy department as well as Sierra Providence Health Network has strengthened their special friendship with the EFMP and the Fort Bliss Community.
