Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

It can be frightening and overwhelming to find out that your newborn needs to be admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. During this time, Sierra Providence Health Network will help you reduce the fear and focus on a quick recovery for your little one.

Babies that need to go to NICU are often admitted within the first 24 hours after their birth. This means they were either born prematurely, showed signs of a complication in the first few days of life or had difficulty during their delivery.

Once a newborn is admitted to one of our NICU facilities, in-house board-certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners, social workers and specialists work closely with the family to plan a course of treatment specifically tailored for your baby.

Each NICU in our network is equipped to care for premature babies and other infants that require immediate and specialized medical care. These infants receive around-the-clock monitoring and observation every day of the week. Parents also have full access to touch and hold their little one as much as possible. And, since having a baby in NICU is stressful for families, social workers are also available to lend emotional support and guidance on financial or therapeutical needs.

If you'd like additional information on the NICU departments within the Sierra Providence Health Network, call (915) 577-SPHN (7746) or visit our hospital's websites.
